Symmetry...

In math, we have started to explore symmetry in our geometry unit. We have been doing different activities to see how symmetry works. We now know that when something is symmetrical, it's the same on both sides.

On Tuesday we folded paper in half to help us make our own symmetrical shapes. We made hearts for our class kindness project and we made lots of different original shapes that we will be adding to a new "Symme-TREE" going up in our classroom later this week!

On Wednesday and Thursday we learned that there is an imaginary line that cuts a symmetrical shape in half. This is known as the line of symmetry. Students worked in pairs and they took turns making pictures using pattern blocks. Their partner then needed create a "mirror image" of the design on the other side.
