SMART board: Day 1!

Today was the first official day of using our Smart Board! This past Saturday I was at Green Meadow all day learning the ins and outs of the interactive white board. Luckily I am fairly good with technology and picked it up really quickly! Today we used our Smart Board for morning meeting, language arts, math, and science! We are all very excited and can't wait to use it for different activities and lessons everyday!

Here are some screen shots I exported from the Smart Board today. I like how I can easily share the work we did in class with you, really by just a few clicks of the mouse!

We practiced using the special Smart Board pens. It's a little tricky and will take some getting used to, but we'll get the hang of it in no time! Our Smart Board allows us to have 2 students using the board at once, which is great! We can also choose which color we want to write with. We can choose from black, red, blue, and green.

We played a short vowel sort review activity this morning that was really neat. We took turns dragging the pictures to the correct vowel sound and then we pulled down the check marks to check our work.

We used the document camera today to take a picture of our poem. We read the poem out loud together listening for the "long i" words, then we used the Smard Board pens to underline the "long i" words.

In math we worked more on number families, learning how to make number family books (which will soon be a new math center). We filled the numbers in together as a class, and also made our own books working on clip boards on the rug.

We also played two math games on education city. We played the games in teams and the students had to work together and check with their teammates before choosing their answer. The games we played helped us practice counting by 2's, 3's 5's and 10's.

At the end of the day we did a science lesson on the Smart Board about magnets. I didn't take a screen shot of this interactive lesson, so unfortunately I don't have a picture from our lesson. During this activity we handled real bar magnets. We identified the north and south poles on the magnets and were able to see and feel how opposite poles attract and similar poles repel.

Tomorrow we will be participating in a magnet program with a presentation from the Discovery Museum. After the program we will continue learning and experimenting with magnets over the next few weeks in science.
