Daily 5 routines.

We are finally all set up and running with each portion of The Daily 5. The class knows the expectations and we are busy, focused, and motivated during each rotation.

Here's what we are doing each day during literacy:

Before each rotation we meet as a class on the rug for a mini-lesson. There is a phonics lesson each day as well as a reading strategy lesson. We are recording our reading strategies on the CAFE menu in our classroom. It's like a menu at a restaurant, except instead of choosing food, we are choosing one or two things to focus on while reading.

We are adding strategies slowly to that we really understand how to use them while we are reading. I am modeling these strategies through reading aloud and providing an opportunity for the whole class to practice before they go off to read independently or with a partner. During reading time, I am working individually with students checking on their strategies, or working with small groups for guided reading, where I work with a group of students who need guidance on the same strategy.

By the end of the year this CAFE menu will be overflowing with strategies!
